Subject: The Most Self Defeating Move Possible

Opting out of the open primary does not mean we will simply remove non-Republicans from our primary.

Fellow SCC Members,

As the September 18th central committee meeting is approaching, I urge you to vote NO on the open primary opt out.

Opting out of the open primary does not mean we will simply remove non-Republicans from our primary. Under current state law, it means we will leave the primary process altogether in favor of a pure caucus system.

While there are flaws in the open primary, this is not a reason to haphazardly adopt a far worse system.

As a consequence of opting out, we will not only neglect a vast majority of Republicans, but will also systematically abandon over 1.6 million unaffiliated voters who comprise the largest voting base in the state. While we corner ourselves away, what will Democrats be doing?

Still participating in the open primary, Democrats will be reaching out to the same unaffiliated voters we would be ignoring. This means Democrat candidates will be given free name recognition and the ability to court hundreds of thousands of unaffiliated voters as future Democrats all before the general election has even started.

Ultimately, this means that the Democrats  will be completely unopposed in getting the votes they need to win.

Instead of pursuing what will be the most self-defeating move possible, let's focus on building the voting bases we need to beat Democrats.
