Members of the SCC,

I grew up in communist Cuba. One trademark of that regime was that it did not want people to vote. The fewer people selecting the politicians, the better.

This is the same approach that opt out proponents are taking toward the Republican primary. Rather than have as many Republicans and conservatives select our nominees as possible, they would limit and centralize the process to a small band of political insiders.

By canceling the primary, Republicans and conservative unaffiliateds would be denied the opportunity to select their preferred candidate on the ballot.

Instead, a mere 5% of Republicans, who have the time and knowledge to navigate the caucus-assembly, will select the nominees.

Do not choose the path of power-hungry politicians, who see voters as an obstacle to power rather than the blessing of a free state. Vote no on the opt out.

Best,
