George Tristan Opinion
The day following the Nov. 5 election, the Washington Post published the article: “The second resistance to Trump must start now.” There are many examples of this corrosive mentality cropping up all around the country. An example that garnered national attention is that of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston claiming that he would utilize Denver law enforcement to defend illegal migrants from ICE and the National Guard; remarks that Johnston later walked back after receiving significant blowback. In Washington, the Biden administration is selling off materials used in the construction of the Trump border wall, for pennies on the dollar. As a result, the Trump administration will have to purchase these materials to replace that being sold, for more than twice what it originally cost, at the expense of taxpayers.
While the exact figure is unknown, estimates of nearly 10 million migrants, from over 100 nations, have illegally entered the United States, during the Biden administration. ICE released a September report indicating that hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants with criminal convictions, have been released into the U.S., which include some 13,099 people convicted of homicide, 14,301 of burglary, and 15,811 of sexual assault. In October, the FBI released a revised report indicating that violent crime in 2022 had increased by 4.5%, after initially stating it had decreased by 2.1%. If releasing illegal migrants with violent criminal convictions wasn’t bad enough, the Democrats believe that we the taxpayers, should willingly carry the financial burden of providing them with cash, cell phones, housing, education, and healthcare. That we should welcome the policies that are creating an inordinate strain on social services, school districts, and hospitals of cities all across the nation.
In the run up to election day, a June 17 CBS News/YouGov poll found that 62% of Americans supported mass deportation of illegal migrants, with Hispanics supporting deportation at 53%. Democrats need to wake up to the reality that they are on the wrong side of history, regarding where public opinion rests on the national security and sovereignty of our nation’s northern and southern borders.
The ongoing criminal activity in Aurora, is suspected to be attributed to the transnational gang, Tren de Aragua. In 2019, Colorado lawmakers passed HB19-1124, which prevents law enforcement officers from arresting or detaining an individual on the basis of their immigration status. It also prevents authorities from providing an individual’s immigration status to federal officials. Laws such as this are set to be challenged by the incoming Border Czar, Tom Homan. Homan has stated that the new administration’s initial deportation efforts will focus on finding and deporting illegal violent criminals. One would think that the residents of Aurora would welcome these efforts, the intent of which is to make our communities safe again.
The common narrative that Democrats espouse is that “America is a nation of immigrants”; that the greatest country on earth, over the course of nearly 250 years since its founding, was built on the backs of hard-working immigrants. This assertion is absolutely on point; however, they leave out the fact that the immigrants they refer to, entered our country legally. And those that chose the path of earning American citizenship, did so by following an established legal process, doing the hard work required to earn the cherished status of, “American citizen”. Naturalized citizens are some of the most patriotic and America-loving people I’ve known.
In my estimation, the issue of immigration was as important to voters this year, inasmuch the economy was. Americans were not buying the notion that the border was secure, no matter how insistent Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas was in driving the false narrative. Immigration is a key facet of the American economy, however, if we do not properly vet the people that we allow entry, then we take huge risks that can have harmful effects. Simply put, we want to assimilate people into our country that will become a valuable asset, not a liability. For greater understanding, research what is currently transpiring in Europe due their lax immigration policies.
