For those of you that do not know me, I believe an introduction is in order. My name is Adriana Cuva and I am an immigrant from Ecuador, now an unapologetic patriotic U.S. Citizen. I believe the values and freedoms that the United States were founded on are timeless and serve as positive examples to the rest of the world. I also believe that the values and platform of the Republican Party best represent the mechanism by which to preserve said values. I present this only as a segue to an alarming concern that I have been recently made privy to.

Within the last couple of years, I wanted to learn how I could get more involved politically to help push back against the onslaught of constant attacks on our founding principles. I started seeking out different politically active organizations here in El Paso County which in turn, helped to educate me on our political process. Long story short, educate myself I did and I learned that here in Colorado, the ‘individual’ has political clout and influence if he/she sets out to actually engage in the process. A group of us decided to put that education into action. I, along with a group of other like-minded Republican volunteers, began to recruit people throughout El Paso County to help fill vacant precinct leader positions. We took action because we wanted more Republicans in our county to step up and get involved with the party. We called and knocked on doors in the vacant precincts to encourage our fellow Republicans to become precinct leaders.

Through our hard work and dedicated efforts, we were able to successfully fill many of the once vacant precincts. I believe El Paso County now has one of the lowest precinct vacancy rates. Of note, we have also been able to activate people from quite diverse backgrounds during this process.

Here is where my dismay and concern come to the forefront: I was shocked to learn that Republican State Party Chair Kristi Burton Brown has called a special meeting of the State Central Committee in order to overturn and co-opt the efforts and the will of the people in El Paso County. This is an unprecedented move by the state party to govern our county party and silence Republicans. Although this move is cloaked in the narrative of the party infighting, this could not be further from the truth. This move is about putting paid political consultants in charge of the county party as the efforts of volunteers and newly concerned activated members
have taken a bite out of their bottom-line. I ask you resist this frivolous attempt to disenfranchise our Republican base and see this for what it truly is.

Sincerely,
Adriana Cuva
